Tavernas in Larnaca: choosing meze and traditional dishes

By Restaurants Cyprus2 min read
Traditional taverna in Larnaca serving Cypriot meze and seafood – Restaurants Cyprus guide

A taverna meal can be a long shared occasion or a simple order of cooked dishes and grills. Before choosing where to eat in Larnaca, decide whether you want meze, individual mains or seafood. The word “taverna” alone does not establish the menu, price or service style.

Militzis: start with the published menu

Militzis provides a menu and restaurant information on its own website. Use it to compare traditional dishes with the meze offering, then ask what is available on your date. The restaurant’s reservation page directs diners to call.

If a slow-cooked dish is the reason for your visit, mention it when you contact the restaurant. Preparation and availability may not work in the same way as a dish cooked to order.

To Kazani: an Aradippou option

To Kazani is in Aradippou rather than Larnaca’s central waterfront. Check its own updates and exact location before making plans. Our guide beyond the promenade helps put the journey in context.

Understand the meze order

  • Ask whether the price is per person and whether there is a minimum number.
  • Check whether the table must order the same meze.
  • Find out whether drinks and dessert are included.
  • Ask how children are charged and whether smaller portions are available.
  • Discuss dietary requirements before the first dishes are prepared.

Meze is not automatically a vegetarian meal because it begins with dips and salads. Ask for a suitable planned selection rather than expecting the kitchen to remove unsuitable dishes after serving.

For a seafood meal

A fish meze and a mixed seafood platter can be different orders. Our fish meze guide explains the distinction and the questions worth asking. You can also browse the seafood collection for listed restaurant profiles.

Plan your visit

Check service hours, reserve directly when needed and allow time for a shared meal. For help recognising dishes such as kleftiko or afelia, read the Cypriot food guide. To compare more locations, start with Larnaca restaurants.
